Sovereignty Competing for the $1.2 Million Purse and Immortality at Saratoga

Big hats and even big personalities will be on display at the Grade 1 DraftKings Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course taking place today, Saturday, August 23rd, later in the afternoon with a special broadcast on FOX from 1-2 pm.

Triple Crown winner Sovereignty is such a heavy favorite, with morning-line odds of 2/5, that he neighed he could forego his sheik custom aluminum racing shoes and do it barefoot. Ok, I just made that up. Sovereignty is expected to race against only four other horses in the short field competing for the $1.2 million purse.

He is hoping to become just the fifth horse in history to win the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes.

After coming off a solid win at the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes, that also took place at Saratoga on July 26th of this year, the expectations for the 3-year old couldn’t be higher.
